Introduction to Disciplinary Procedures for Schools

What this course contains

This course will enable participants to learn, and become familiar with, the basic steps involved in conducting an effective investigation and managing staff through a formal disciplinary process. This course provides a step-by-step guide and takes participants through the whole disciplinary process; providing ample opportunity to reflect on various examples of both misconduct and gross misconduct and consider the steps involved in effectively managing a variety of situations.

Intended outcomes

Course participants will be able to:

  • Familiarise themselves with the elements of an effective Disciplinary Investigation
  • Understand the role of an Investigating Officer
  • Understand the difference between conduct and capability
  • Recognise when to suspend an employee
  • Learn the difference between misconduct and gross misconduct
  • Familiarise themselves with the requirements of a Disciplinary Hearing
  • Ensure a fair decision is reached
  • Consider appropriate sanctions and dismissal
  • Deal with an appeal effectively

Who is this course for

This course is an Introduction to the Disciplinary Process and is aimed at aspiring members of the Senior Leadership Team, members of the Governing Body and newly appointed School Business Managers.

The cost

The course costs £475 + VAT and can be delivered on site to up to 10 delegates

If two three hour courses booked for the same day, the cost is £795 + VAT.


To successfully complete the course, particpants will be required to pass a short assessment.


Upon successful completion of the course participants will be issued a CPD accredited certificate. The course equates to 3 hours of CPD.
