What this course contains

This course will enable delegates to learn, and become familiar with, the basic steps involved in managing staff reductions and redundancies. This course provides step-by-step guide and takes delegates through staff reduction and redundancy processes. This will provide delegates with a better understanding of the general process involved as well as providing an opportunity to reflect on a number of scenarios and examples to help build confidence to assist with managing a redundancy/restructure situation. 

Intended outcomes

Course participants will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of having an effective Redundancy Policy;
  • Establish a genuine reason for redundancy; 
  • Prepare all relevant documentation for presentation to Governors to include Business Rationale, HR1 form (if required), letters to staff and union, Job Descriptions and new Organisation chart; 
  • Familiarise themselves with collective and individual consultation processes;
  • Understand the importance of exploring alternatives to redundancy;
  • Be able to identify the correct pool for selection;
  • Understand the importance of having suitable selection criteria;
  • Hold effective consultation meetings;
  • Deal with a dismissal hearing effectively; and 
  • Deal with an appeal hearing effectively, and

Who this course is for

This course has been developed as an introduction to the staff reduction and redundancy process and is aimed at aspiring members of the Senior Leadership Team, newly appointed Line Managers, members of the Governing Body and School Business Managers new to the role.

The cost

The course costs £475 + VAT and can be delivered on site to up to 10 delegates

If two three hour courses booked for the same day, the cost is £795 + VAT.


To successfully complete the course, participants will be required to pass a short assessment.


Upon successful completion of the course participants will be issued a CPD accredited certificate. The course equates to 3 hours of CPD.
