About this On-Site Human Resources course

What this course contains

This course will take delegates through the employment life cycle from recruitment right through to bringing the employment relationship to an end. Delegates will learn and become familiar with key processes, including safer recruitment procedures, ensuring legal compliance. Delegates will gain a basic knowledge of the impact of discrimination law on the employment relationship, understand how to manage conduct and how to deal with sickness absence. The course will provide ample opportunity for the participation in case studies and the discussion and contribution to various workshop activities. Initially designed as a two-day course, HR Essentials training is aimed at providing delegates with a basic tool-kit to enable them to deal with common, day-to-day issues, which they may often face as part of the operational running of a school.

Intended outcomes

Course participants will be able to:

  • Successfully carry out a recruitment and selection process, avoiding common pitfalls;
  • Recognise the importance of the particulars of a contract of employment;
  • Become aware of the different contractual terms and the ways that terms and conditions of employment can be varied;
  • Deal with issues of misconduct and become familiar with the processes for managing conduct;
  • Familiarise themselves with the various forms of termination of employment and subsequent obligations on the school;
  • Consider appropriate action for managing sickness absence;
  • Understand how to deal with requests for maternity leave and pay; and
  • Understand the basic requirements of Performance Management.

Who this course is for

This course has been developed as an introduction to HR essentials and is aimed at members of operational support staff in an educational setting including School Business Managers new to the role, Office Managers and Admin Support workers.

The cost

The course costs £475 + VAT

If two three hour courses booked for the same day, the cost is £795 + VAT

Assessment

To successfully complete the course, participants will be required to pass a short assessment.

CPD

Upon successful completion of the course participants will be issued a CPD accredited certificate. The course equates to 3 hours of CPD.
