What this course contains
This course summarises the basic steps, procedures and legal considerations involved in dealing with both short-term and long-term absence. Attendees will be given an opportunity to reflect on examples of sickness absence and evaluate their understanding of the procedures involved and legal considerations to be aware of. This will include evaluating the management of sickness absence both formally and informally, setting periods of review and using sickness absence trigger points to ensure that situations are managed effectively.
Intended outcomes
Course participants will be able to:
- Familiarise themselves with the elements of an effective Managing Sickness Absence Policy
- Understand when and how to use Occupational Health referrals
- Learn how to manage short-term absence
- Learn how to manage long-term absence
- Recognise Trigger Points for absence
- Ensure a fair process
- Consider the legal issues
- Consider appropriate sanctions and dismissal
- Recognise when to move to formal sickness absence management
Who is this course for
This course is an Introduction to Managing Sickness Absence and is aimed at aspiring members of the Senior Leadership Team, newly appointed Line Managers, members of the Governing Body and School Business Managers new to the role.
The cost
The course costs £475 + VAT and can be delivered on site to up to 10 delegates
If two three hour courses booked for the same day, the cost is £795 + VAT.
Assessment
To successfully complete the course, attendees will be required to pass a short assessment.
CPD
Upon successful completion of the course attendees will be issued a CPD accredited certificate. The course equates to 3 hours of CPD.
