Data Protection

Freedom of Information and Data Protection: How They Work Together

About this event

For the fist time in 7 years, the ICO issued an enforcement notice to two government departments failing to comply with Freedom of Information Requests (FOIs), stating it’s “the start of our new approach to regulating the Act.”

The ICO also said they will be making “greater use of [their] powers under the Act to drive good practice and compliance.”

As FOIs become a focus for the ICO, what can your school or Trust do to ensure you are handling FOIs correctly and in a timely manner.

During the session we will be looking at:

  • An overview of your obligations under FOI
  • Understanding the difference between Freedom of Information and Subject Access Requests
  • How to apply FOI exemptions to personal data
