Frequently asked questions about Safeguarding
Safeguarding in schools means protecting children from harm and promoting their safety and wellbeing. It covers the policies, procedures and day-to-day practices schools use to prevent harm, identify concerns and respond appropriately.
This includes child protection, safer recruitment, staff training, online safety, and other areas that help keep children safe.
Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) taking the lead in overseeing the school's safeguarding arrangements.
School leaders, governors or trustees, and all staff also have important roles to play in keeping children safe and responding to concerns.
The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) plays a pivotal role in safeguarding children within educational settings.
The DSL is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the safeguarding arrangement, acting as the main point of contact for safeguarding concerns. To support your DSL, our service includes a school safeguarding audit.
At inspection Ofsted and ISI are evaluating the safeguarding culture of the education setting. For ISI and Ofsted safeguarding is a limiting judgement.
Schools must pass safeguarding requirements at inspection to pass overall. Both bodies outline their criteria in their respective framework.
