Financial Leadership Support Service

Our financial leadership and management service is designed to give you the confidence to lead your school finances towards long-term financial viability and support the day-to-day financial management in your school. This service will ensure that you are meeting the statutory requirements that are expected from the Department of Education and Local Authorities.

1. Annual off-site review of financial documentation

At the outset, before our visit, we will be in touch to obtain critical information on your school. We will use this information to analyse your teaching and support staff structure, curriculum offer, learner numbers and income and expenditure over the last three years to highlight areas for further review.

2. Benchmarking exercise

A full benchmarking report will be created for your school using the DfE benchmarking website, the report will include schools or comparators of your choosing. This service also includes advice and guidance on how best to structure a benchmarking summary report to give to governors.

3. Annual financial review and risk assessment (including single central register check)

Following the initial preparation work, we will visit your school to review your curriculum and pastoral structure, teaching and support staff structure, and site resources. This visit will also include a check of the single central register. Following this visit we will produce a detailed Review Report of your organisational structure and operations. This will enable you to make a better-informed judgement as to whether you have the right structure in place. We will also draft an Action Plan setting our recommendations as to any remodelling or restructuring, which we feel is necessary to bring about necessary change.

4.Support with budget setting and budget monitoring

We will support you to build a sustainable 5-year budget forecast to ensure that resources are being used efficiently. This will involve utilising information gained from the annual financial review. We will then support the budget monitoring process through termly visits to highlight variances and give senior leadership and governance an accurate forecast to year-end each term.

5. Financial Leadership Training

We offer bespoke financial training for your senior leadership team and governors around long-term financial viability and financial best practice. This on-site training can be delivered at a time to suit you and your governors. This service also includes access to our on-line training course “Understanding and Implementing the Academies Financial Handbook”. We recommend this course be completed annually to facilitate compliance with Education Funding Agency statutory regulations.
