A Practical Guide to Probationary Periods

Who is it for?

This course is aimed at members of SLT, SBMs, HR team members and line managers that may be involved in the management or oversight of staff within their probationary period.

Intended Outcomes

This course provides practical advice and guidance to managers on how best to utilise probationary periods within schools. Schools do not often utilise probationary periods or use them to their best advantage. At the end of the course participants will:

  • Understand the purpose and benefits of a probationary period;
  • Understand how these can and should be used in relation to different types of roles;
  • Understand how and when probationary reviews should be undertaken and what these meetings should entail;
  • Understand the school’s options if there are performance concerns; and
  • Understand how to complete, extend and terminate a probationary period.

  • 9.30am – 1.00pm

Location

  • This course will be run remotely via Zoom.

Cost

  • The cost of this session is £110 plus VAT per person for clients of the Employment Law and HR Service and £140 plus VAT per person for non-Employment Law and HR Service Clients.

CPD

This course equates to 3 hours of CPD and following attendance on the course, participants will be sent electronic copies of their CPD certificate, along with copies of the slides and activities discussed during the session.
