This practical session explores how schools and MATs can embed AI tools safely, effectively and responsibly. Using real-life educational examples, the session will focus on:

• The opportunities and risks associated with using AI tools in education.
• Key data protection, privacy and safeguarding considerations.
• The governance questions school leaders should ask before approving a new AI tool.
• Practical uses of AI for lesson planning, differentiated resources, SEND and accessibility.
• How AI can support communications, administrative tasks and workload reduction.
• Prompting techniques that can help staff generate clearer and more useful results.
• Common risks, including inaccurate information, personal data disclosure, bias and copyright concerns, and how these risks can be managed.
• The importance of reviewing AI-generated content and applying professional judgement before it is used or shared.

Why This Matters 

AI is becoming increasingly visible across education, both through tools selected independently by staff and through products purchased by schools and MATs. These tools can help reduce workload, improve accessibility and support the creation of teaching and administrative resources. However, they can also introduce risks relating to personal data, safeguarding, accuracy, bias, and accountability. Schools need to understand not only what AI can do, but also how to assess whether a tool is appropriate, what information can be entered into it and how its outputs should be reviewed. This session will help participants approach AI adoption confidently while maintaining appropriate professional, legal and governance oversight.

Practical Session 

This is a practical session rather than a technical deep dive. It will include examples of how AI can support classroom and admin tasks, together with example prompts that participants can adapt for their own settings.

There'll be an opportunity for a Q&A, discuss current concerns and consider governance challenges emerging within their schools and MATs.
