Who is it for?

This course is aimed at members of staff that are new to managing the appraisal process – this could include members of SLT, SBMs, HR team member or middle managers that are either new to overseeing the appraisal process or would like a refresher on best practice.

Intended Outcomes

This course will provide an overview of the appraisal process and its importance for those who are new to the management of this process, including:


  • Understanding what is involved in an appraisal process; 
  • Identifying the roles and responsibilities of the line manager in the appraisal process; 
  • Understanding the difference between appraisal and capability; 
  • Considering the importance of target setting; 
  • Understanding the importance of review periods; 
  • Understanding the best format for appraisal meetings and 
  • How to avoid common pitfalls.


        • The cost of this session starts at £995 plus VAT for up to 20 participants for clients of the Employment Law & HR Service. Each additional participant will be charged at £55 plus VAT per head. Where the session is to be delivered on site, in person, reasonable travel expenses will be charged in addition to the session cost.
