Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
School attendance remains a significant challenge for many children and young people, with persistent absence continuing to affect educational outcomes, wellbeing, and future life chances. Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) is a growing concern for schools, requiring a coordinated and informed response from education professionals and families.
Join Rik Chilvers, former SENDCO and Head of SEND Service, as he explores the key principles, practical strategies, and evidence-informed approaches for supporting pupils experiencing EBSA.
This webinar will provide SENDCOs, teachers, and senior leaders with the knowledge and understanding to:
- Identify factors that contribute to EBSA
- Recognise early signs and indicators of EBSA
- Support children and young people experiencing EBSA
- Coordinate an effective whole-school response
- Work collaboratively with parents, carers, and other professionals
- Promote attendance through inclusive and supportive practice
This session will help delegates build confidence in responding to EBSA and developing sustainable approaches that support both attendance and wellbeing.
