Course Overview
Technology shapes how children learn, communicate, build relationships, seek approval and understand the world around them. For many young people, being online is simply part of everyday life.
As safeguarding professionals, we understand online harms. But perhaps the more challenging question is:
What impact is technology having on the children in our care?
This year's Safer Internet Day 2027 theme, "Reflect on tech: exploring digital wellbeing and our relationship with technology", challenges us to look beyond devices and screen time and examine how technology shapes children's emotions, relationships, habits, and sense of self.
Course Benefits
- 45 minutes long
- Delivered online
What You'll Learn
This webinar will explore how schools can prepare for Safer Internet Day and use the theme to start meaningful conversations with children and young people. Together, we will consider why healthy digital habits do not develop by chance; they must be taught, modelled and nurtured.
Together, we will reflect on:
- The impact of technology on confidence, self-worth and wellbeing.
- The influence of social media, gaming, algorithms and online personalities.
- Children's ability to question, challenge and think critically about online content.
- What a healthy balance between online and offline life looks like.
- The knowledge, attitudes and behaviours young people need for the future.
This session is designed for DSLs, Deputy DSLs and safeguarding leaders committed to strengthening online safety and digital wellbeing.
Because safeguarding in 2027 is about more than understanding online harms; it is about helping children develop healthy, informed and resilient relationships with technology.
