The 2026 edition of Keeping Children Safe in Education reinforces that effective safeguarding is not simply about responding to concerns, but about creating a culture where children are prepared for life in modern Britain. Alongside increasing scrutiny from Ofsted, schools are expected to demonstrate how their curriculum, values and everyday practice help pupils understand diversity, challenge discrimination, build respectful relationships and develop the knowledge and resilience needed to stay safe. This briefing will explore the crucial role of education as a safeguarding intervention and what this means for DSLs and the wider safeguarding team.
This webinar provides DSLs, Deputy DSLs, senior leaders and the wider safeguarding team with the knowledge to understand the following:
- The growing focus on preparing pupils for life in modern Britain and what inspectors expect to see in practice.
- How RSHE and wider curriculum opportunities can be used to prevent harm, promote inclusion and equip pupils with essential life skills.
- How to move beyond tokenistic delivery to embed democracy, individual liberty, mutual respect, tolerance and the rule of law throughout school life.
- The safeguarding links between bullying, misogyny, misandry, racism, faith-based discrimination, harmful ideologies and schools' Prevent responsibilities.
- The roles of the PSHE Lead, SENDCO, Behaviour Lead and pastoral team in evaluating, leading and strengthening safeguarding through education.
