Judicium Shortlisted for Fire Safety Consultancy of the Year at the 2025 FSM Awards

We’re proud to share that Judicium’s Health and Safety and Fire Safety team has been shortlisted for “Fire Safety Consultancy of the Year” at the Fire and Security Matters (FSM) Awards 2025. This nationally recognised award celebrates consultancies that consistently deliver excellence in fire safety—and we’re delighted to be named among the best in the industry.
The Standout Project That Made an Impact
Our nomination focused on an urgent and high-impact project carried out in summer 2024, supporting a Trust in preparing two new specialist schools for safe, compliant openings by September.
These Special and Alternative Provision settings required immediate support to meet stringent fire safety regulations before students arrived. Judicium’s BAFE SP205-certified consultants delivered pre-occupation Fire Risk Assessments, priority action plans, and tailored solutions specific to the needs of SEND learners—including override call points, sensory-sensitive drills, and bespoke evacuation protocols.
Why This Matters: The Fire Risk Facing Schools
The threat of fire in educational settings is very real:
- Over 1,000 school fires occur annually in the UK, with an average cost of £2.8 million per serious incident (Zurich Municipal).
- 60% of schools impacted by a significant fire never fully recover (Zurich Municipal).
- 70% of school fires are started deliberately, making prevention and proactive planning essential (UK Home Office, 2022).
- Schools are twice as likely to experience a fire compared to other commercial buildings (Zurich Municipal).
- In a recent review, 41% of schools were found to have inadequate fire safety measures (FPA, 2023).
With these statistics in mind, effective fire safety consultancy is not just about compliance—it's about safeguarding lives, learning, and long-term resilience.
What Sets Us Apart?
At Judicium, our fire safety services are designed specifically for schools and trusts, ensuring practical, sector-specific solutions that go beyond generic assessments. In the last year alone:
- Over 7,000 staff completed our CPD-accredited Fire Safety eLearning.
- We delivered 130+ face-to-face training sessions across the UK.
- Our clients gained access to our JEDU Fire Risk Dashboard, offering real-time compliance oversight.
We also help schools meet their legal responsibilities under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, including termly fire drills and regularly updated risk assessments.
Our Clients Say It Best
“The consultant’s knowledge and expertise have been outstanding. Their assessments don’t just highlight issues—they provide practical solutions we can implement straight away.” — Richard Warnham, The Westbrook Trust
“The personal touch is invaluable—you’re not left with just a portal. You have a dedicated adviser who knows your school, your context, and works with you to get things right.” — Saima Nisco, Landon School
This shortlisting is a reflection of the dedication, expertise, and passion our team brings to every school we support.
Looking Ahead
We’ll be celebrating the winners on 5th June 2025 at the FSM Awards ceremony. No matter the outcome, we’re proud of the role we play in helping schools and trusts create safer environments for staff, students, and communities.
