School Visits and Trips - (From policy to post-trip review)

About this event

In 2020 a primary school set off for a trip to the lake district with 2 staff and 13 pupils. Tragically the trip went horribly wrong and ended with an injury and the staff and pupils being rescued by a mountain rescue team.

The result was over a £30,000 fine to the school and proof that poor planning and assessment, a lack of training and qualifications, and a series of mistakes caused the children to be at risk of great harm.

This cautionary tale was beset by avoidable risks and proves how important Educational Visit Policies are.

During the session we will be looking at:

    • Implementing and reviewing an Educational Visits Policy

    • Understanding staff responsibilities for educational visits
    • Educational visit and sports fixture planning essentials including first aid and emergencies
    • Post-trip Reviews - understanding the value of reviewing what happened
