Health & Safety
School Visits and Trips - (From policy to post-trip review)
Accidents on school trips can be costly for schools and can also put student safety at risk. In February 2022, a school was fined £30,000 after failing to provide safe conditions and appropriate staffing on a school trip.
While learning outside the classroom is beneficial to student development, the right procedures must be in place to ensure safety for all.
This sofa session is designed to provide practical support and guidance throughout the school trip process.
During the session we will be looking at:
-
- Explore how schools can put clear, practical frameworks in place for managing educational visits and sports fixtures - from policy through to post-trip review - with the right support at each stage.
- Understand the responsibilities of Headteachers, Governors, EVCs, Trip leaders and support staff, and how appropriate training helps everyone fulfil their role with confidence.
-
Learn how effective risk assessments, first aid planning, emergency procedures and post-visit reviews contribute to safer, well-managed trips and continuous improvement.
