Safeguarding
Beyond the School Gate: Safeguarding your pupils in alternative settings
Join us on the sofa for a session discussing the risks involved in alternative provision (AP) and how to keep children safe. The session is designed to give safeguarding professionals insight into first-hand experiences from our audits, as well as key considerations for Ofsted inspections. Attendees will also gain best practices for maintaining a safe and consistent approach when working with AP providers and parents.
During the session we will be discussing the following:
- What is an alternative provision (AP) and expectations on schools for keeping children safe in this setting.
- Part-time timetables and considerations of risk.
- The responsibilities for schools for those letting their premises.
Key Takeaways
- Learn from Judicium audits of schools and alternative provision providers.
- An understanding of expectations for safety, including those from Ofsted.
- How to work effectively with AP providers, parents and students to ensure the utilisation of such provision is safe, effective and fit for purpose.
Let us introduce you to this week's professional speakers
Joanne Bocko
Joanne has a wide range of safeguarding experience which allows her to understand the differences between schools and the challenges they face. Starting as a primary school teacher, her compassion for those in need led to a move to Police Staff and eventually working in the cybercrime team supporting schools and students with online safety issues. She headed up campaigns for online offences and appeared on the BBC and Radio One newsbeat. Her passion for schools brought her to the Local Authority, where, as a Safeguarding in Education Officer, she provided training and support to all schools in her county. Her motto is ‘if it will make life easier and better for schools, I will do it!’
