Who is it for?

This course is aimed at members of SLT, SBMs, HR team members, and line managers that may be involved in the management of long-term sickness absence. It may also be helpful for Governors or Trustees to have an overview of the management of long-term sickness in the event they are asked to consider the dismissal of a member of staff due to ill health or appeal against such a decision.

Intended Outcomes

This course provides a best practice overview in how to support staff, but also to deal with and manage long term sickness absence, including:

  • Understanding the need for a difference in the management of short and long-term absences;
  • Awareness of the possible areas of discrimination that may arise in the management of long-term absence;
  • Understanding the key content of RTW and welfare meetings in managing long term absence;
  • Understanding the importance of trigger points;
  • Awareness of ill health retirement as a possible outcome of informal/formal discussions with employees; and
  • Understanding the full formal absence process when managing long term sickness absence.

        Cost

        • The cost of this session is £85 plus VAT per person for Employment Law and HR Clients and £110 plus VAT per person for non - Employment Law and HR Clients.

        CPD 

        • This course equates to 3 hours of CPD and following attendance on the course, participants will be sent electronic copies of their CPD certificate along with copies of the slides and activities discussed during the session.
