Introduction to Data Protection
Effective governance is the foundation of compliance, and this session is aimed at governors and trustees who want to ensure their school or trust is compliant with data protection requirements and demonstrates robust governance around the safeguarding of information. We will explore the responsibilities that governors and trustees hold under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, and the practical expectations of oversight in schools and trusts. We will focus on what good governance looks like in relation to data handling, breaches, and risk management. We ensure you are aware of the questions you should be asking senior leaders, the processes you should be monitoring, and how to evidence effective oversight of data protection, so that when challenged—whether by the ICO, or stakeholders—you are confident in your role and prepared with clear, informed responses.
