Safeguarding

Protected Characteristics

About this event

Although protected characteristics are usually thought of in relation to the workplace, the Equality Act 2010 applies to users of private and public services.

Pupils are such users and a school has an obligation to protect them against discrimination, harassment or victimisation relating to the nine protected characteristics. It is important to build a culture where discrimination is not tolerated and where students feel safe in your setting.

Knowing how these characteristics intersect with safeguarding is an essential step.

During the session we will be covering the following:

  • What they are and which are most relevant to schools
    • How they intersect with child-on-child abuse
    • How best to record, analyse and report on this data
