Safeguarding Children Who Are Looked After and Previously Looked after: Roles, Responsibilities & Whole-School Approaches
In light of recent government announcements to expand support for previously looked-after children and the broadened statutory remit of Virtual Schools to include children in kinship care, this session offers a clear overview of the safeguarding responsibilities linked to supporting these children. Designed for adults working with children who are looked after or previously looked after, the webinar will deepen understanding of the needs of these children, while strengthening confidence in the roles, responsibilities, and whole-school approaches that make a meaningful difference to their safety and wellbeing.
By the end of the session, participants will have a greater awareness of:
- The unique vulnerabilities of children who are looked after or previously looked after
- The statutory role and responsibilities of the Designated Teacher
- How the Virtual School supports children, families, and education settings
- Practical, whole-school strategies that improve safety, stability, and outcomes for children with care experience
