England's STPCD 2020 Published
As you may be aware, the DfE has now published the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document (STPCD) 2020 which will take effect retrospectively from 1 September 2020. There is little change in the contents to English schools. The only notable change relates to the September 2020 pay award and introduces advisory pay points for teachers on the main and upper pay ranges at appendix 3 (please note these are advisory only and not mandatory).
The pay award is as follows:
- The minimum of the main pay range is uplifted by 5.5%;
- The maximum of the main pay range is uplifted by 2.75%;
- The minima and maxima of all other pay and allowance ranges for teachers and school leaders are uplifted by 2.75%.
Except for those on the minimum of their pay range, it is for individual schools to determine how to take account of these uplifts in accordance with their pay policy when deciding on individual pay progression. Decisions must of course, in the usual way, be based on performance in line with your appraisal policy and uplifts backdated to 1 September 2020.
Schools should review their current pay policy in line with the changes to the STPCD 2020 in readiness of the new appraisal cycle (2020/2021). If you need any assistance to update your new pay policy or would like a copy of ours, please do not hesitate to contact us. For our Welsh clients, we await the STPCD (Wales) 2020 to be published.
