Protecting home workers
Due to the current climate many schools have seen the rise in flexible working and working from home, more and more of staff find themselves doing so for the first time. As an employer, you have the same health and safety responsibilities for home workers as for any other workers. As an employer, you should consider:
- Lone working arrangements
- How will you keep in touch with employees
- Working with display screen equipment
- Specialised DSE equipment
- Stress and mental health
Schools should ensure that they utilise a proportionate approach to purchasing home equipment. The health and safety executive (HSE) has provided advice on homeworking for employers during the COVID-19 outbreak. The HSE has also created a DSE Checklist which employers can request homeworkers to completed on their workstation at home. Alternatively, you can continue to utilise your Judicium DSE assessment tool.
